Winter Holiday Celebrations in Boulder County

8 Activities that make Boulder feel like a living Hallmark Movie

Holiday rom-coms are filled with cheesy one-liners and formulaic plots. But they can also be a wonderful disconnect from reality and leave you feeling light and open-hearted. The scenes are set with snow and lights. They’re brimming with nostalgia and cheer like a steaming cup of wassail. Our city is one of the best settings to bring those emotions into reality. The Compass Boulder realtor team here is not saying you’ll bump into an undercover Prince on Pearl Street. But stroll through the snowfall under the light of the Flagstaff star… and you’re sure to feel a bit of holiday magic.

Here, the Boulder Compass real estate agents at Burgess Group list 8 holiday activities happening in town this year that could easily be the backdrop for a Hallmark movie.

Lights of December Parade

Some people wait until after Thanksgiving is in the rearview mirror to decorate for the holidays. For us, the holiday season doesn’t kick off until the Lights of December parade marches down Broadway. On the first Saturday of December, lights, floats, and a marching band promenade down the main Boulder thoroughfare. It’s a treasured holiday tradition and feels festive every year.

Find Freezie competition/ Freezie fest

Freezie Fest happens on Pearl street every Saturday this month. The holiday extravaganza includes free train rides, visits with Santa, reindeer games, and our absolute favorite holiday tradition: the find Freezie competition. Wander through the Pearl street shops searching for any sign of the plush snowman known as Freezie.

The Firefly handmade market

The Firefly handmade market is the perfect way to complete your holiday shopping. We love to use the season of giving as a way to gift presents to our loved ones… and gift our patronage to local businesses. All of Boulder’s top artists and artisans are set up at the Firefly market.

Snow much fun

Most holiday traditions are purely nostalgic. But the Snow Much Fun Experience looks to the future. That’s right. It’s a self-guided Virtual AR tour of downtown. As you walk through town, you’ll see Frosty the Snowman, a gingerbread dance crew, and polar bears romping around familiar Pearl Street locations.  It’s a half-scavenger hunt, half-holiday light display and unforgettably unique.

Winterfest at Chautauqua

The annual Winterfest celebration at Chautauqua is the perfect backdrop for a “meet cute”, and is among our Boulder realtor team’s favorite traditions! The winter celebration at the base of the Flatirons has carriage rides, a digital scavenger hunt, smores stations, and more. Activities like the caroling hike will leave you breathless.

Experience a Ski Village

Ski resorts know how to tap into holiday magic better than anywhere else. Nearby Breckenridge and Vail decorate their cobblestone streets for the season. Although they don’t have to try too hard to be picturesque. The snow capped Rockies don’t need embellishment to look like a movie backdrop.

Winter Hikes

Nothing showcases the magic of our city quite like our snowy evergreen forests. The best way to experience it? Our Compass Boulder real estate agents recommend taking a snowy hike! Immerse yourself in the wilderness. Boulder has some incredibly scenic trails within minutes of downtown. Just make sure to dress warmly and bring all the safety essentials with you.

Holiday Tea

Each year the Hotel Boulderado hosts a holiday tea service. Guests dine on finger sandwiches and delectable pastries while sipping pots of winter-warmer tea. The hotel decks its halls with garland and lights. Guests dine under the famous stained glass canopy ceiling.

Happy Holidays from The Burgess Group | Compass Boulder realtor team
