Bixby School

Grades: PreK-5

The Bixby School has been part of the Boulder Community since 1970. It has a strong reputation around Boulder as a great educational institution. Students at Bixby wreak the benefits of small class sizes (only 8-10 students per class!). Bixby from other private elementary schools is that they don’t emphasize homework. Bixby teachers believe that there is great value in out-of-school activities and family time. For that reason, they don’t typically assign homework. Bixby believes that childhood formative years are important, and our Boulder real estate agents couldn’t agree more! They take time to nurture social-emotional learning as well as academics.

Grades: 6-12

September School is a private middle and high school. Their thing is relationship-based education. They recognize that adolescence is an extremely difficult time. They bring individualized attention to every student. Each student is greeted with guidance, respect, and hospitality when they enter the doors. Their curriculums focus on diversity, inclusion, teamwork, and communication. This approach sets them up for success and happiness in their adult life. Alexander Dawson School

Dawson School is a K-12 private school that sits on a picturesque 107-acres. When arriving at Dawson, you’ll drive through a grand archway onto a tree-lined drive. Dawson finds that their pristine physical spaces make their students excited and engaged about campus life. Dawson emphatically enrolls International Students and a section of campus even includes “language cottages”. There are also six fields, two gyms, a woodshop, a ceramics studio, and a full theater. Students at Alexander Dawson thrive in Arts, Language, and athletics.

Mountain Shadows Montessori School

Mountain Shadows is the only AMI Associated Montessori School in the state. As a result, all teachers are AMI trained. Mountain Shadows has a 7-acre farmhouse campus with plenty of play space for the children. This is a zero-waste campus (including classrooms, restrooms, and offices).

Grades: 18 months- 6 Years Old

Boulder Montessori is nestled at the base of the foothills. All teachers are certified by the American Montessori Society. Teachers are specially trained. They teach children how to exercise independence, decision-making, and build cooperative relationships. Boulder Montessori works with children 18 months to 6 years old.

Desiderata School

Grades: 4-12

Our Boulder realtor team can tell you all about tiny homes… but what about micro-schools? Desiderata is considered a micro-school. It’s a throwback to the education of years past. It’s a thriving re-imagined one-room schoolhouse. It’s been nationally recognized for its alternative style. Homework is not required. Students complete their work at their own pace, then move on. If students require more time to master a subject, they are given as much time as they need. Community activities also count towards school requirements. Desiderata has onsite classes, but also offers satellite programs for parents wishing to homeschool.

Watershed School is adamantly against memorizing answers for standardized tests, a concept that our Boulder real estate agents can get behind! Students never sit in a fluorescent-lit classroom wondering “when will I ever use this in real life?” Watershed students learn by going off-campus. They work with experts and create solutions to real-world problems. They learn economics by starting a small business. They learn algebra and calculus by helping engineers solve problems. The result means that students love learning and look forward to coming to school every day. There are outdoor classrooms, design labs, and spaces to create art. As a requirement, students spend 15-25 nights away every year. This includes backpacking trips and international adventures.
