Boulder has witnessed the most expensive campaign for the hotly contested ballot issue 2H.
Boulder voters supported the installation of tax on distributors of soda and other sugary beverages.
The tax will be two cents per ounce on distributors of beverages with at least five grams of added sugar per 12 ounces.
“We have won a major victory for the health of our community and all our children,” said Angelique Espinoza, campaign manager of Healthy Boulder Kids.
Alcoholic and medical beverages, milk products and 100-percent juice drinks are exempted from the tax.
Aside from Boulder, San Francisco, Oakland and Albany in California and Cook County in Illinois have joined Berkeley, California, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in passing taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB).
